About Top Tech News

Technology coverage that respects your intelligence.

Top Tech News is an independent technology publication covering hardware releases, software developments, industry shifts, and the products that actually matter to people who use technology every day. We write for readers who can tell the difference between a press release and a review — and who are tired of finding out they cannot.

Why Top Tech News Exists

Technology journalism has a credibility problem. Too much of what passes for coverage is thinly rewritten press releases, embargo-driven reviews written before a product has been used for more than a day, and affiliate-driven buying guides that recommend whatever pays the highest commission. Readers have noticed, and they are right to be sceptical.

Top Tech News was built around a different approach: cover what is actually significant, say clearly when something is overhyped, and treat affiliate relationships as a funding mechanism rather than an editorial influence. We are a small, independent operation — which means we have no advertisers to protect and no parent company with a stake in a particular hardware ecosystem.

What We Cover

  • Hardware Reviews — CPUs, GPUs, laptops, peripherals, and consumer electronics — reviewed after real use, not just benchmark runs and unboxing impressions.
  • Software & AI — Development tools, operating system updates, AI applications, and the practical implications of new software releases for everyday users and professionals.
  • Industry News — Acquisitions, product launches, policy changes, and market shifts that actually affect what technology costs and what it can do.
  • Buying Guides — Category-level recommendations that prioritise genuine value over margin. We explain the trade-offs clearly so you can make the right choice for your specific use case.
  • Security & Privacy — Vulnerabilities, breaches, and practical guidance on protecting your devices and data without requiring a computer science degree to follow.

Our Editorial Approach

We distinguish clearly between news, analysis, and review content. News posts report what happened. Analysis posts explain what it means and why it matters. Reviews reflect extended use of actual products under real-world conditions.

We disclose affiliate relationships wherever they appear. We do not accept hardware samples in exchange for guaranteed coverage or positive reviews. When we get something wrong — and occasionally we do — we correct the record visibly and promptly rather than quietly editing the original post.

Meet the Team

Alexander McGregor — Founder & Editor

Alexander founded Top Tech News after years of reading technology coverage that seemed more interested in manufacturer relationships than reader trust. He oversees editorial standards and writes on hardware, open-source software, and the business side of the technology industry. Based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, he has been following the technology industry closely enough to have opinions about decisions that turned out to be either prescient or embarrassing — sometimes both.

Maya Kincaid — Senior Writer, Hardware & Reviews

Maya covers hardware releases and in-depth product reviews with a focus on real-world performance over benchmark theatre. She has a particular interest in the consumer GPU and laptop markets and in the growing gap between manufacturer claims and what products actually deliver outside of controlled test conditions. Maya contributes two to three reviews and hardware analyses per week and is the site’s primary voice on anything you can physically buy and put on a desk.

Devon Sing — Staff Writer, Software & AI

Devon covers software developments, AI tools, and the security and privacy implications of new technology with a clarity that cuts through marketing language. With a background in software development, Devon brings a practical, implementation-aware perspective to coverage of developer tools, AI releases, and enterprise software — explaining not just what something does but whether it actually works as described. Devon contributes two to three articles per week.
